TEST DRIVE MEME #4
Arrival

Broken Palace by Jonathan Eng
0:07 / 1:13
▶︎
During 2014 Jonathan Eng composed the soundtrack for interactive narrative experience The Sailor’s Dream, consisting of a mix of instrumental tracks and a seven-part musical story told in folk song-form.
Like all who come through the summoning circle, your arrival is heralded by a dream. Waking up is a dizzying, disorienting thing... and possibly made worse by the fact that you aren't alone.
Right after you appear, so does someone else. If you're lucky*, they'll simply blink into existence by your side. If you're not, there's a chance they spawned below or above you. That's one way to make a memorable first impression. Best untangle yourselves and get things figured out.
If you're extremely unlucky*, instead of another person being brought through the summoning circle, it's a monster. The creature buzzes menacingly and immediately darts at any potential fresh blood it can.
Some welcome this is. If you aren't the fighting type, hopefully someone nearby is. Eventually, one of the local Town guards will slay the monster before it - and you - cause too much trouble or lose too much blood.

SINK OR SWIM

Since several people in Town by now are fully-fledged dragons, Dimitri and Hoshiko have teamed up to provide some training drills for those wanting to hone their skills. Although meant for more veteran dragons, newcomers are also welcome to observe and learn what they might be able to do! They may even be paired up with a more established offworlder of the same dragon type as a mentor.
These drills will be around the new(er) formed lake thanks to a previous offworlder's efforts. It provides the perfect place to see what someone's breath weapon can do in different environments as well as help people cool off if they need to. Either way, don't expect your trainers to go easy on you. While not an exhaustive list, the training drills include...
Although this is supposed to be super serious training time, no one is stopping you from having a bit of fun too. The climbing structures are fun to jump off into the water. Those ropes dangling over the edge from thick tree branches make a great swing to catapult you far into the lake. Sometimes, some play is necessary even in the midst of 'work.'

Either way, don't expect your trainers to go easy on you. While not an exhaustive list, the training drills include...
- ⁂ Underwater Breath Attacks - No matter the situation, a dragon needs to be able to utilize their breath weapon accordingly. Sections of the lake have been sectioned off for different dragon types to practice this. See how poison or acid spreads, learn how to electrocute or freeze enemies, or even boil the water with a bit of concentrated fire. No aquatic animals will be harmed, but they can't guarantee you'll come out unscathed if you happen to fall in.
⁂ Marksmanship - As the resident ranged shooter expert, Hoshiko will be testing people's accuracy with their breath weapons. She'll have a variety of targets around the lake set up to hit the bullseye of if you can. The most difficult though will be the moving target that's strapped to herself. For a large dragon, she moves surprisingly fast and will duck in and out of the water as well to provide an appropriate challenge.
⁂ Conjuration Classes - Taking this opportunity, Ardyn Izunia (
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
⁂ Staying Vigilant - While parts of the lake are sectioned off, this one is clear about not entering. A painted sign reads: "Beware of kelpies." It might be easy to presume this is also part of the training drills, but it actually isn't. Dimitri is trying to keep offworlders from being drowned. Thankfully, the kelpies aren't actually that much of a threat. Why, you ask? Well...
"Hey," says one, skirting the edge of the lake shore. "Hey, I need some help here. I'm stuck in the kelp and can't get out." This seems reasonable. It is covered in kelp and waterlogged. Besides, a talking horse surely isn't the strangest thing most people in Town have seen by now. Maybe you can assist just in case. "I promise I won't drown you," it adds, which is a bit suspicious but may still not be enough to deter someone entirely.
However, another snout and muzzle pokes up from the water nearby its friend. "Wait- We are going to drown them though for real, right? Like, I just want to be sure-"
"Shut up," the first kelpie hisses. "You always do this, man! This is why we never get to drown anyone!"
"Sorry. Sorry, it's just- You said we weren't, but I thought we were so I got confused. A-anyway, right! Hello. We are totally normal horses who will not drown you. Please, come closer."
If you refuse, the kelpies continue to bicker until they're effectively deterred and sink back down into the depths before (weakly) attempting to drown someone else again later.
THIS HEAT IS INTENTS

It's Raining Somewhere Else by Toby Fox

Robert F. "Toby" Fox is an American video game developer and composer. He is best known for developing the role-playing video game Undertale.
During the day, the heat becomes almost intolerable at its peaks. While some dragonbonded were lucky to get an ice type, others may not be. Without more modern amenities, people of Town and Offworlders both are left to do what they can to combat the rising temperatures. It is recommended people open their windows at night to let the cool air in but then close it again as the sun starts to climb.
After a couple of days of sweltering suffering in the midst of a heatwave, Charlie offers camping equipment for people who may want to escape the warmth as best they can. People can camp by rivers or lakes to keep cool, fish for food, and set up bonfires at night. Slayd might be seen at your campsite, even, with a fun tune to keep spirits up.
Although not an exhaustive list, some of the things offworlders can do while camping are...
The change in attitude is only temporary though and will diminish over time once someone is away from the tent for a few hours. Once they return to it though, the cycle will begin again and some may catch on to this pattern. But what's the harm, really? Enjoy the cool breeze, have a good sleep, and hopefully sweet dreams. You might even be more amicable to sharing your tent space thanks to your improved mood but that is up to you!

- ⁂ Chase or catch lightning bugs. They are in abundance during the early nighttime and can provide a bit of fun.
⁂ Cook over the campfire. S'Mores, meat, whatever! Just be careful of attracting predators if you do this. Dispose of all your food properly lest you invite raccoons, bears, or more to your campsite.
⁂ Foraging. Similarly, finding food out in nature is a fun activity. Although the Fae might try to trick you with dancing lights, they're easy enough to dissuade.
⁂ Stargazing. The constellations here are different, but it might be worth mapping them out or learning their stories.
⁂ ( NSFW - Nudity ) Skinny Dipping. A classic camping activity once the sun sets is stripping off your clothes and going for a swim. The water is cool, no one can see, and it's kind of freeing!
⁂ ... and lots more! Have fun out there, offworlders, and try not to do too much damage.

One of the things that was given to you in your welcome pack from Charlie was a summoning-stone. Although it looks like, well, an ordinary stone- It's actually magic! You can look through it and see someone else's face too if you're both viewing your stones at the same time. It can also record your speech and deliver that to someone else in a snap.
One of the other features is that you can scrawl on it. It will turn your writing into legible text that you can send others to read on their stones. Of course, you need to attune yourself to your stone first. To that end, it prompts you to set up a Rockstar Profile:

Hella here got a late start on her education and her literacy level is Doing Her Best, so it's something that might come up at some point even if writing is never strictly necessary.

Hi! My name's Rosie. I run the All The Way Inn here in Town.
You're welcome to stop on in to try and beat the heat. To that end though, any dragonbonded with ice breath get a discount on a meal and drink on the house if they can help with keeping things cool around here.
I'm more than happy to pay in other ways too! Just let me know. I'll do just about anything to keep my customers and goods from melting.
❥ intents music session.
While Slayd is providing musical encouragement, Rosie is working on her own music at her tent. Someone might be drawn by the sound of a string instrument expecting the woodsy local but find her instead. She doesn't mind any disappointment, but will invite them to still stay and listen if they want.
"Sorry, it's not as fun as other entertainment. Mostly just work-shopping some tunes to see how they fit with certain lyrics right now... I'm a little rusty on original work, but trying to get back into it." If not just for the fun of it, then to keep the appeal of live entertainment at her inn. For as busy as it has kept her, she did want to run it as best as she could.
❥ pale moonlight.
(cw: nsfw/nudity)
Rosie is perhaps noticeably absent from the water-based training drills. At least, from participating in them. While she's happy to cheerlead and encourage people to do their best, she seems content to stay away from the water's edge despite the near intolerable heat.
A spell in a tent with that enhanced relaxing oil though and she's a bit less anxious about the water. Still nervous, yes, but not deathly afraid like before. Yet, she still doesn't want to risk the vulnerability that comes with explaining why she was avoiding the water earlier; instead, she finds a quiet, discreet place to disrobe and tentatively toe into the cool water during the dark of night.
She doesn't go further than just about chest height and keeps her feet firmly planted on the soft, damp earth below. Being moored this way keeps her from being too afraid to enjoy finally, finally escaping the heat from before. She braves bending forward to wet her hair and throw it back with a sigh.
But she at least isn't so distracted that she misses the crack of a twig or rustling of leaves nearby. With a small squeak, she crouch down into the water and asks: "Who's there?"

Oanna raises an open hand, as if to indicate that she isn't holding any weapons. Her other arm ends just past the elbow, so she's probably not hiding a dagger there, either. Down to just the innermost layer of her robes, she was planning to drop that too, but probably better to make sure there's no bad blood before getting naked.
"I just wanted to escape the heat for a bit. I can come back later if it's a bad time."

Hella | Path to Nowhere | new player
[Hella is used to sleeping outdoors, even in the wilderness now. She's also used to waking up on the ground after rolling and wiggling and thrashing her way out of her sleeping bag overnight--she's always been able to occupy an inordinate amount of bed for someone her size. But the unfamiliar feeling that wakes her is a soft sort of ticklish, slightly itchy feeling on her skin which, blinking groggily, she slowly realizes is grass.
Grass? Fucking grass? In Whitesands? Grass is something you get in... like... parks and stuff in Eastside, and around the farming satellite towns. And there's that weird springy fake grass in the "outdoor" area at the MBCC. But when Hella went to bed last night she was in a bombed-out desert wasteland stretching for hundreds of miles in every direction.
The second thing to get her attention is the buzzing, which finally causes her to look up.
Now, this kind of thing isn't all that outlandish or terrifying by her world's standards. And she is, under the right circumstances, perfectly capable of defending herself against even more grotesque monsters. However, just now Hella is unarmed, alone, has no idea what's going on, and until about two seconds ago was still at least half asleep. So it shouldn't count against her street cred that, instinctively, she scrambles to her feet and bolts away from the big fuckass bug demon, screaming at the top of her lungs.]
Help! Beautiful girl in danger! SOMEBODY! HEEEEEEEEEELP!!
- beware of kelpies -
[Hella does not know what a kelpie is. She does, however, know a hustle when she sees one, even when it's not objectively terrible. And in Syndicate, there are two ways to respond to a hustle: apply violence, or hustle back.
Hm...
After the kelpies disappear, she searches her surroundings for something hard and heavy. She finds a decent-sized fallen branch, drags it to the edge of the water, and crouches down with the branch hidden behind her back.]
Oh my gosh, are you still there, horsies? It sounded like you were talking, but I couldn't make out what you were saying! Do you need help? Ohhh, if only I knew how to swim!

[ Thankfully, she's gotten a bit more comfortable with shifting to more draconic when she needs to. That includes now as she suddenly whips a long, green tail out from beneath her dress to smack that bug harshly away. ] Buzz off, already! [ The pun was intended, but she also means it as she growls and flexes her claws.
Thankfully, the creature decides this isn't worth the challenge and blitzes away. Rosie turns to the other girl with constricted pupils and a huff of green smoke from her nostrils. Hints of emerald scales line parts of her face and neck but not completely. ]

[Oanna manifests about a hundred yards above the ground. Not... okay, on the list of weird things that have happened to her, it's at least near the top of the list.
Well, there's a lot to ponder here. Why her? Why this high up? How long is it going to take for her to get back to her bloody vengeance?
Oh hey, there's someone down there.]
Incoming.
[Said in a matter-of-fact tone as she plummets groundwards. However, rather than crashing into the hapless soul underfoot, she lands with the lightness of a feather, the tip of her foot lightly touching their head before drifting off to the side and landing gently on her feet. One of the perks of her training.]
Do you know what's going on here? If you do, I have a lot of questions.
-2- Fire
[It's hot. For some reason, her spirit flow isn't protecting her from the elements as much as it used to. It's like her core has been weakened by the transition to this world. Well, during the day, nothing for it but to distract herself with work. It's a classic pastime of most Artists: Gathering herbs.
The trouble is, none of the herbs she recognizes are anywhere to be found. The plants are as alien as everything else about this place. So, what started as an attempt to be genuinely productive eventually becomes just a walk in the forest. Eventually, even that becomes sitting cross-legged on the grass, eyes closed, coaxing spiritual energy out of the atmosphere and into her body... Even cultivating here feels off. The air is all wrong.
She cracks an eye open at the first sounds of anyone passing by.]
How's your knowledge of medicinal plants? I've come down with a case of scales.
-3- Metal
When we have seen the view from every mountain peak,
When it snows in summer,
When heaven and earth become one,
Not until then will I leave your side.

Yeah, sort of - but what kind of magic was that?!

Beating the heat
If it bothered him so much, he could very well just push away. It's not as if he isn't unnaturally strong or without a dragon form of his own. But he can't deny the temptation of dragon-powered air conditioning isn't strong in this heat. Or that he... Actually doesn't mind being licked that much. It's only a little gross. Which is a mortifying thought that he keeps to himself as he half-heartedly pushes at Ardyn's muzzle. Which may stray into a pet or two if he continues to be licked.

Dusk fishing (also /waves hiiii)
Just below the mirror surface of the lake, his long tail swings from side-to-side to lazily propel him through the water. He’s idly herding a few fish about, slowly inching them to the edge of the lake where it will be easier to snap them in his jaws or spear them on his horns. The giant blue isn’t in any real rush, fish aren’t particularly bright, simply moving where he isn’t.
He knows he’s closer to shore as the murk starts to darken, but thinks little of it. At least until something suddenly breaks the surface of the water, and impales one the fish he’s been stalking. The spear quickly draws it back, and Ravus snorts as the rest of the fish scatter. Tilting his head and kicking out with his hindlegs, he breaches to see just who has ruined his meal.
Like a giant, electrified blue crocodile, Ravus keeps only the top of his head above the water, shimmering crystalline horns and equally intense stormy eyes peer up to the shore. There’s a man and his little fire there, and while Ravus isn’t pleased about losing his catch, he supposes he can't begrudge another for hunting for his, either.
“Well caught,” he rumbles, bringing his chin just above the surface to speak unmuffled. It’s about then, blinking lake water from his eyes, that the uncanny resemblance sinks in. It’s not a perfect copy, but it’s hard to miss after being intimately familiar with the other prince, that this fellow looks far too much like Noctis to be coincidence.
Ravus slinks closer, until his front claws sink into the mud of the sloping shore. But no, there’s no mistaking it. If Noctis were a good decade older, Ravus thinks it wouldn’t be too far off. That’s rather eerie.
“You are… familiar,” he says, as if the word isn’t quite right, but it’s perhaps the closest thing to match the odd sensation. His tone isn’t necessarily the friendliest either, but it’s not hostile. Yet

Ignis Scientia | Final Fantasy XV | Current Player and Character
No one can say that Ignis is uninterested in practicing his breath weapon. Now that he is a little more secure in his abilities, including transforming himself, he is far more comfortable going about with draconic qualities - or even the full dragon.
Those also attending the lessons may find the put-together retainer coming to the lessons in a loose shirt and pants - the former which gets dismissed to the armiger in a shimmer of light - before he takes into the water. First just as his mostly normal human self, save a few... more scaley qualities, such as his long tail with shimmering crystalline feathers at the tip and a trail of deep green speckled scales up his spine and to the feathers along his ear. If anything, he seem to be taking this as a reason to keep up his swimming form as much as seeing how his venom - gaseous in nature - takes to water.
The answer: mostly a lot of strange, pale bubbles that, with enough breath force, foam up along the surface.
Anyone who approaches will have Ignis surface shortly after with an idle warning. "Ah, I'd be careful poking those bubbles. They may make you feel a touch.. hm. Loopy." At least, for fellow dragons, he's come to learn.
Alternatively, while it is mostly for after he's finished up with his training... One may be able to see a large velociraptor-like creature floating out on the lake. In some ways, it almost seems like a swan with the way that it floats along the surface, wings tucked in carefully and overshadowing any frontal claws. Even the head at the end of that long neck seems to be tucked away carefully as he enjoys the afternoon.
....But don't think he's not paying attention to things. Any disturbance at the water, or even the shore if he happens to float near enough, has a pair of bright green eyes peer out from their darker speckled surroundings.
"Can I help you?"
B - Markmanship (cw: potential mild drug use via dragon breath
Frankly speaking, Ignis already has a feeling for how he'll do on Hoshiko's little test. His particular breath weapon is a bit less... focused than, say, a fireball, or a shard of ice, or a stream of acid.
Just because he knows the answer ahead of time is no reason not to give it the good ol' college try, however.
And it is a decent try! For all that he is working with, enough focus and the plume of pale green gas shoots out fairly decently in Hoshiko's direction. Not enough to land, and doesn't quite reach... but it seems to get far enough! Farther than he expected, at any rate.
Ignis rubs at his throat in the aftermath. "Ah... That is a touch rough on my lungs, however. I think I will want to use that in... moderation, at best."
Hopefully people are careful with how close they get to Ignis during this bit of practice, however... Or aren't unlucky with a sudden breeze. Ignis's poison breath can have certain affects, although with other dragon-bonded, they tend towards the more... recreational, at least at first. A rather pleasant floating feeling, a more positive outlook, a sort of tingling in the body...
Granted, that tingling get turn to numbness really quickly. In which case, things will become worrying. But don't worry - Ignis is keeping an eye out for that.
C - Camping
Honestly, Ignis is in an excellent mood for camping. He's engaged (a fact no one else knows, because he keeps personal details to his grave), his fiance loves camping, his other boyfriend loves fishing, and his two other boyfriends...
Well they can deal.
Either way, that extremely good mood is probably more than apparent for anyone who happens to pass by his campsite - home to more than a few other people. The smells which waft from this makeshift kitchen around the campfire are different every time someone passes by. Certainly they're delicious no matter what. How can a man make so much at a campsite?
And it's not that he's just making it for the four men and one lovely lady that are accompanying them on this trip, either. Anyone who wants by, whether by curiosity or coincidence, will find the chef himself smiling on over.
"Hungry? Fortunately, I know quite the rugged and capable survivalist who makes sure I'm never lacking in ingredients." Is he boasting for this survivalist? Yes. And he's making no secret of it, either, very clearly preening about it. "So by all means, feel free to take a seat. I imagine the rest of my little troupe will return in their own time."

Fish that Noct is coming back with a line of dangling over his shoulder. Which is precisely why he immediately falls into banter with the other man. If that banter has a slightly flirty tone well he can't really help it when Iggy is in such a good mood. If it also means their potential guest simply smiles awkwardly and scampers off-
Noct isn't too fussed about it.
"Wow! I see how it is. He's the only one keeping your ingredients stocked huh?" The indignation is exaggerated and Noct can't hide the little smirk as he moves to lean against the small wooden prep table Iggy is using. Not quite enough to put himself between Ignis and his work but enough to make the man reach around him a bit to keep working. Conveniently forcing Iggy to move into his space? Maybe. "Does that mean I should go give these to someone else?"

❖ SINK OR SWIM.
Genesis is choosing to do neither. In fact, with his large, buoyant tail and whatever else makes up the gelatinous-looking core of the dragon’s body he’d probably float instead. Fine by him, really. This sweltering heat doesn’t bother the red, and instead, he opens up his large black wings to absorb as much sunshine on their plumage as possible.
But he does sit by the edge of the lake, with the water and sunlight reflecting off his scales and tail like glimmering rubies. Whenever someone strays near, he puffs himself up a little bigger, sways his tail to throw scarlet refractions across the shore, and generally looks a proud as a peacock.
Splash him with a little water to douse his ego, or admire the pompous lizard, but either way, he looks your way and rumbles a pretentious: “Impressive, no?”
❖ THIS HEAT IS INTENTS (ugh).
While nighttime and the moderating effect of the nearby lake help cool the evening air, Genesis sits a bit further back from all the activity. He’s not hidden among the taller reeds, given his bright red hair, and the fact he practically lounges with his wings out. All around him, fireflies gather, perching in the tall grass or a few along the dark feathers.
He watches them with a soft look, clearly fond despite his usual distaste for bugs. These ones are nostalgic, reminding him of watching them during summer nights back home in Banora. Clearly not one to be snuck up on, sharp hearing and all, he glances up at whoever approaches, but doesn’t move.
“They’re rather quaint, for insects at least. And something familiar is always welcome in a strange new place, isn’t it?”

training drills
Caspar has been here long enough, now, for the breath weapon Rosie warned him about on arrival to start presenting... a little bit of a problem. The occasional crackles of electricity around his mouth when he gets heated (which is often), sparks jumping to metal drinking cups (or to his gauntlets, if he forgets to take them off before going to wipe his face) are startling on their own - but he really doesn't want to risk them getting worse and actually hurting someone.
...Someone he's not meaning to hurt, anyway.
So! Nothing for it but to get good!! He throws himself eagerly into those training exercises, as he does just about any training exercise. He can be found crouching by the part of the lake sectioned off for electrical attacks, peering into the depths. His thick, crocodilian tail, scaled in bronze and blue-green, shifts in the grass behind him.
"...Doesn't look much different, does it? That's kinda scary."
At other times, he tries his hand at Hoshiko's marksmanship challenge - ranged combat has never really been his specialty, but it's for that reason that he's all the more excited, jumping upright with a pump of his fist, when a carefully-aimed burst of lightning actually hits that moving target, if barely. "--Did you see that?! Man, I'm getting the hang of this!"
camping
Caspar is well accustomed to living out of a tent, but this is... different, from his father's wilderness training exercises or his time as a soldier. More relaxed, and yet that relative comfort just leaves him with more excess energy to burn off.
He fills that space, as best he can, with chores. While he's no expert on foraging, he proves competent enough with someone else to direct him - as well as, perhaps, surprisingly efficient about hunting and making snares. He's not squeamish, either, more than happy to help with breaking down what's been caught. ...Even fish. He has no intention of eating it, but he knows other people will!!
"Man, this kinda brings me back." He laughs quietly as he pauses in his work, wiping the sweat from the back of his neck with a cloth slung over his shoulder. "Last time I did something like this without a battle coming up was probably... back when my father used to drop me off in the woods, I think? Now, that was terrifying."
Not a single hint that he thinks that might be... odd, maybe? Sometimes your dad just leaves you in the woods! That's how it is!
skinny dipping
(cw: nsfw/nudity)
Caspar isn't particularly shy to begin with, nor is he entirely new to shared bathing spaces. As such, the added privacy of the dark is more a bonus than a requirement for him to stash his clothes and wade into the cool water.
...Really, the main reason he's worrying about doing this when it's quiet out at all is that he still... doesn't entirely trust his breath weapon not to go off. Accidentally zapping someone who was just looking to go swimming and escape the heat would really, really suck.

Aera Mirus Fleuret | Final Fantasy XV | new player
Aera's awakening does not surprise her much: it wouldn't be the first time she's allowed herself to doze off in the sunlight and away from the castle. Of course, it may be a little embarrassing for an Oracle to just go and have a nap in the gardens (or... a grove? She can't quite remember how she got here...), but Aera is blessed with loving and loyal servants. They wouldn't badmouth her or let her come to harm, so what is there to worry about?
A noise makes her turn her head.
It turns out her servants are not there. What is there instead is a blasphemously giant mosquito.
"NO!!!"
It's unbecoming of an Oracle to squeal like a young girl
whose fiance's brother is putting frogs in her shoes out of jealousy because niisan won't play with him anymore, but have you seen the size of that thing? A chilly thought shoots through Aera's mind that if this is a daemon (and what else could it be?), she's doomed. With no entourage, weapon or even skill at self-defense, what is she supposed to do?For a (seemingly) demure priestess type Aera has a good turn of speed and good reflexes. She scrambles up quickly and breaks into a run down the trail - she hasn't had the time to read the sign, but a road should lead somewhere, right? A town, a village, anything, somewhere with people and fire. She can only hope this won't be bringing the Scourge to whoever lives around here.
So, if you're outside the Town gates, you're likely to see a clearly noble girl doing her best Sonic impression as she tries to dodge the giant mosquito, occasionally throwing rocks or sticks at it when she can grab some from the road. Please help her.
II. Rocky Talky
Stone tablets are not unfamiliar to Aera, but it's the idea that you can use them to immediately communicate with someone over distance that makes her a little nervous. The closest thing she can think of is the Crystal, a conduit of divine will that only the chosen can approach. Is it really fine to use such similar power to simply speak to one another?.. And another thing--
"W-What is a 'Rock Star'?"
She's turning her tablet around in her hands, clearly baffled by this ~technology~.
IIIa. Tiny Friend Lightning Bugs
Now these are insects Aera can enjoy interacting with. Their gentle glow makes the night seem magical, and the ordeal of being away from her homeworld (and the state it's in) easier to forget.
She manages to trap one firefly, the light emanating from between her fingers and reflecting on her face.
"Such beautiful things... Can one keep them, I wonder?"
IIIb. Foraging
Alternatively, you can run into Aera if you also go foraging! She's come prepared with a basket to put her catch in; there are already some mushrooms and berries in it, those she could readily identify. It's not all going her way, though.
"This one is spoiled, too? Goodness!"
She leaves the mushroom she was going to pick (it's got worms in it, gross!) and tries to follow the spotty trail of other mushrooms. A little deeper into the forest... and a little deeper more... and further on...
Maybe someone should remind her that there are still dangers out there.
rugby tackles into I
So he's on his way back from the markets, baskets and bags full of food, when he hears the tell-tale sign of nuisance buzzing.
Without thinking, he carefully sets down his groceries and calls to his hand the spear Noctis gave him some time ago, Gae Bolg. While of course he carries his own daggers on his person, well... He thinks in this case, a spear might be for the best.
That is how Aera will find a blur rushing past her, only to suddenly leap high into the air with a dragoon's bounding ability. Ignis doesn't think there's any reason to fuss about; he simply pins it straight down into the earth with tremendous force. The squealch it makes is highly unpleasant... and so is the flailing it does in the aftermath. Nose wrinkled, Ignis leaves the spear set inside it and simply steps back. A dagger to the head, and that solves that.
"I had wondered what would bring them so close to Town. Normally they have a touch more common sense than that."

Mithrun of the House of Kerensil | Dungeon Meshi | current player
While Mithrun is definitely open to being paired up with any ice type newcomers needing guidance, whether his particular approach works for that newcomer is likely to be... rather dependent on the individual. On one hand, Mithrun's explanations and demonstrations are straightforward and to-the-point; on the other, he can be... blunt to the point of, perhaps, seeming a bit harsh.
"Wrong."
"Don't do that."
"That will get someone killed."
At the very least, he'll give more specific guidance if asked... and, once in a while, those he's supervising may even get an equally flat, blunt "Good."
...Also, every so often, one may find him side-eyeing Ardyn and his so-called classes... or the kelpies. He might pick up a rock or something and stare from it to them contemplatively. Don't worry about it.
training drills b
( warning: potential references to self-harm if threads really get into the state of his wings )
In his own time... Mithrun knows where his own biggest weakness lies at this point. While his aim isn't the most consistent, he's confident enough after passing Hoshiko's marksmanship challenge that it isn't too dire; his use of teleported projectiles, after all, lends him both a fair bit of experience with ranged combat, and... a decent sense of where his limitations lie. There's only so much one can do about a missing eye.
No, the bigger problem is flight. Half-transformed, or even fully changed into a lithe white dragon, he... tries. The cause of the problem at hand is no secret; his wings, like much of his body, are crossed with scars, from deep furrows where they connect to his back to tattered edges on the eyespotted membranes. It's not that he can't fly at all, but-- getting enough lift to get off the ground proves to be a struggle, as does keeping that height once he's in the air.
It's that weakness that he's working to shore up with a specialty: Teleportation. Generating enough force to take off with his damaged wings is one thing - but, with a running start and a quick spell, he can at least get himself a ways up. Periodically, he has to cast again to regain that height - but he can at least get enough lift to buy himself some time in between, practicing steering in the meantime, diving now and then to build momentum.
Landing, too, is... a little hard with his depth perception - but at least, if he crashes, even in dragon form, he's. On the smaller side? Which is to say, roughly horse-sized at the shoulder.
Maybe give him some space.
camping
When he isn't being either a passable teacher or an absolute menace, depending on who you ask, Mithrun is potentially a bit of a help with the heat! Lying by the tents in dragon form, he's more or less a horse-sized ice cube - and the citronella oil helps turn his perpetual exhaustion to something closer to relaxation.
For those willing to risk getting up close enough to ask for some scaly real estate to lie against... could be worth it?

Irving Braxiatel | Doctor Who EU | current player, new character
[Turning up somewhere new is, perhaps, not entirely surprising, in Brax's experience. Turning up somewhere he hadn't fully intended to go is... newer. Enough so to at least be novel, if nothing else. Especially given that he has not appeared alone, and given his height things might get a should he happen to land on top of someone, though he will at least be apologetic about it.
That, or perhaps there is simply just very abruptly a tall man in a suit nearby, looking puzzled but only mildly so. Either way, there's a brief pause - including any necessary detanglement and then he speaks.]
I don't suppose you also received an unusual vision prior to arriving here?
{staying vigilant}
[A new place - and one that appears to be absent any easy way to leave - means a necessity to learn what he can about this strange new world. Most particularly in the wildlife native to the area. As such it is perhaps no surprise that he has wandered his way over to - and past - the sign saying to beware of kelpies.
In his defense, he's at least not unaware of the myths surrounding kelpies. The Doctor is hardly the only one with a minor fascination with Earth and it's various stories. But he is curious to see how they happen to line up (or not) with the stories he knows and so it is that he has found himself not so much arguing with the kelpies as holding a calm discussion with them.
From a reasonably safe distance, of course.]
It does generally help to not loudly announce one's plans. Or so I have found.
{this heat is in-tents}
[Even Brax has to admit that the sudden heat is unexpected, especially for what has otherwise seemed to be an approximately Earth-like climate. This has not, exactly stopped him from walking around in a formal suit all the same but it is very much noticed.
On the other hand, he is hardly about to miss the experience of camping, such as it is. And thus he can be found by the river, with a fishing rod in hand and a faintly bemused expression on his face.]
Ah, I have to admit. I am not particularly familiar with how this is supposed to be done.
Lahabrea | Final Fantasy XIV | Current Player
[Though it is interesting to know that a space has been made for the testing of breath weapons in relationship to water, Lahabrea has turned his attention to the markmanship practice instead. Both to see how accurate he can be and also to get a little more practice with actually flying in his draconic form.
As it turns out, while he's decent enough at keeping up (and has absolutely no problem ducking underwater either) he is somewhat less than perfectly accurate with his breath weapon. Anyone standing particular close may need to watch out for errant sprays of acid, which gleams faintly green against whatever it should happen to land on.]
{This Heat is In-tents}
[i]
[Even to Lahabrea, who has spent much of his life working with fire-aspected creations the sudden heat of the summer is more than a little unpleasant. Nor do the alterations he has made to his robes to accommodate a more draconic form offer much additional reprieve. As such, he has taken to the lake.
By which we here mean, he is in the lake, in his fully draconic form, fully submerged save for the top of his head in a manner not unlike a very large crocodile. Admittedly, he's not trying to hide, so if any happens to recognize the curving horns and black scales he is more than happy to talk. But until there there is just the quite gaze of a pair of red eyes just above the surface of the water as anyone happens to draw near to where he's watching from.]
[ii]
[Later, once the sun has set and the heat abated somewhat, Lahabrea can also be found on the shores of the lake, a bonfire gently burning as he sits. Perhaps he is merely taking a moment to stargaze. Or perhaps it's his way of announcing that he would welcome company should anyone else which to enjoy the fire's glow.
Either way, he is at least more humanoid, with just the horns curving up and around his head and silvered claws to suggest at his draconic changes. (If his tail is also present, it is at least not immediately visible from a glance.)]
